ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Code Orange performed at The St. Augustine Amphitheatre, on May 17. They were the direct support, Deftones was the headliner and there was no opening act.
Eric Balderose and Reba Meyers are the guitarists, Jami Morgan is the drummer and Joe Goldman is the bassist of Code Orange. Balderose, Meyers and Morgan share vocal duties.
After a delayed start due to the weather—Code Orange began their showcase with “I Am King” and “Slow Burn”. During “Dreams In Inertia”, Balderose and Goldman faced their back towards the crowd. They would play their instruments near their monitors at the back of stage to cause an effect with their instruments.
At the start of “Unclean Spirit”, a guest vocalist shouted into his microphone to hype up the viewers and encouraged Code Orange to give it all they had into the next song. Meyers and Balderose head banged as they played on, as the wind passed through their hair.
Goldman jumped and ran between Meyers and Balderose, as he played his bass during “Starve”. At one point—Balderose knelt down and over his pedal board, adjusted the knobs and strummed his guitar. After he stood back up, he and Morgan assisted with backup vocals.
Soon after “Starve” came to an end, Morgan spoke to the audience. He requested everyone to raise their arms in the air if they were looking forward to see Deftones play later in the evening. They did as he requested and they accompanied the movement with cheers. Then, Code Orange began “Your Body” with an instrumental.
Before Code Orange continued their recital with “Alone In A Room”, Meyers thanked the audience for arriving early to see them and how they appreciated them for doing so. She mentioned they played so much they appeared to be broken and how their equipment felt the same effect. She cited how they felt honored to be the musicians to be the direct support to one of the best bands of all time.
Prior to “Bind You”, Morgan shouted from behind his drum kit and into his microphone. He requested to see where all the hardcore kids were at and the onlookers cheered. As Goldman struck his bass, he leaped and kicked as he did so.
“My World” ended Code Orange’s performance. After the song came to an end—Meyers reintroduced them, stated they were from Pittsburgh and thanked the spectators.
