LOUISVILLE, Ky. – GonzoFest Louisville 2016 will be taking place on Harbor Lawn of Waterfront Park, on April 16. The sixth annual event will be celebrating art, literature, music and Hunter S. Thompson.

All five guests will visit the GonzoToday.com Big Top tent. The area will feature book signings, literary readings, live panels and more. 2016 will have a literary journalism contest. It is a national writing competition and the deadline is set for March 15 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard time. Those wanting to enter must send a single PDF file. It must be saved as their first name, last name and zip code. A cover letter must accompany it, with the originality of the work and a word count. The word count must be between 1,500 to 10,000 words. The content must be sent to gonzoliterarycontest@gmail.com. Dug Begley, Michael Jones, Latoya Peterson, Nuno Vargas and Eric Westervelt will be judging.
In 2014, GonzoFest Louisville featured several types of events. They included: art, keynote speech by Frank Messina, local musicians from all genres performed, panel discussions of Hunter S. Thompson’s cultural impact, poetry readings, readings of Thompson’s works, revealing of Thompson’s banner called “Hunter’s Gonzoville”, screening of the Ralph STEADman documentary titled “For No Good Reason” and Mayor Greg Fischer claimed April 5 as “Gonzoville” for the day.
For 2015, 5,000 fans gathered at GonzoFest Louisville and the Big Four Lawn became home to the festival. Acrobats, literary arts, live poetry, music, a parade, spoken word and vendors occupied the park. They hoped to bring actor, Bill Murray, to the festival. Since then, they set their hashtag campaign of #BilltotheVille in motion. Videos were submitted to YouTube to urge the actor to attend. The mission to have a statue built of Hunter S. Thompson in or near the heart of Louisville, Ky began.
