Times Union Center for the Performing Arts to welcome Jill Scott and Georgia Me

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jill Scott will be performing at the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts, on Aug. 28. Georgia Me will be the special guest, for the evening. Scott’s tour will begin at Mountain Winery in Saratoga, Calif., on July 22. It will conclude at The Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Sept. 1.
Scott is from Philadelphia. She is part of the Blues Babe and Warner Bros. Records roster. She is promoting her album, “Woman”. It is the first record since 2011’s “The Light of the Sun”. Her discography consists of: “Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vo. 1” (2000), “Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2” (2004), “The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3” (2007) and two live recordings.
Over the course of Scott’s career, she has been awarded three GRAMMY Awards. She has collaborated with many artists on her albums including: Anthony Hamilton, BJ the Chicago Kid, Doug E. Fresh, Eve, Mos Def, Paul Wall, The A Group and The Roots. She has been featured on songs by Common, Dr. Dre and Jon Connor, Pusha T, Robert Glasper, Will Smith and Young Jeezy. She was also part of three compilation releases.
Outside of music, Scott has appeared in motion pictures. She made her on screen debut on an episode of “Sesame Street”, in 2002. Her latest was “Snowfall”, earlier this year.
Georgia Me is an award winning poet, spoken word artist and actress. Her accolades include Tony, Emmy, Peabody, BAFFTA and KUUMBA awards.
Television appearances of Georgia Me include: several performances on HBO’s “Russell Simmons presents Def Poetry”, TV One’s “Verses & Flow”, MTV’s “I Used to be Fat”, BET’s “Lyric Café” and “The Monique Show” and NBC’s “Last Call with Carson Daly”. She has appeared on the following networks: ABC, Oxygen, PBS and CNN.
At the Hip-Hop Awards Weekend, Georgia Me was the only speaker chosen at The Honorable Louis Farrakhan’s luncheon. She was the founding member of the all-female collective known as Adam’s Rib and created and executive produced the cultural celebration, “The Tamika Festival”.
Through the art of public speaking, Georgia Me has performed at major venues throughout the country and she has shared the stage with countless artists. She has performed in over 40 states and several countries throughout the world. She has co-starred in many independent films and “Madea Goes To Jail” was her major motion picture debut.
