Finn's Beachside Pub Indie Artists Night hosts the third opening round

FLAGLER BEACH, Fla. – Tony Paul Neal hosted the third qualifying round of Finn’s Beachside Pub’s Indie Artists Night, on March 30. The overall winner will go onto receive airplay on radio stations locally and worldwide. The competition is sponsored by S.R. Perrot, WQFB Surf 97.3 FM and Coors Light.
Competing for the two spots at the Finn’s Beachside Pub Indie Artists Night finals were: Justin Gurnsey, Billy “Sweet Wiliam” Ennis and “Jim “Jammin’ Jim” Coons of Blew Country, Jerry Smith, Nina Nuyen featuring Sonny Pastore on guitar, Shea Birney, Davey Leatherwood and Tiffany Fugit.
Prior to Neal beginning Finn’s Beachside Pub Indie Artists Night with “Home Sweet Home”, he welcomed everyone in attendance and thanked everyone involved for putting it together. Between his chorus and verse, he spoke over the instrumental. He said the song was inspired by coming over the bridge to Flagler Beach, Fla. at 4 a.m., after being gone for a week. After the song came to an end—he introduced the first contestant, Gurnsey.
“Someone So Plain”, “Better Things”, “Music Making Machine” and “Salt of the Earth” were part of Gurnsey’s set.
Coons and Ennis are the vocalists and acoustic guitarists of Blew Country.
Ennis spoke of how “Baby” was about falling in love with a young and beautiful woman. He stated how “House of Mirrors” was about being kicked to the curb by her, afterwards. “Lonesome Cowboy” and “Coming Home” were also part of Blew Country’s concert. They came in second place.
“Under The Bridge”, “Sweetest Dreams of All Time”, “Alone Last Night” and “Just My Luck” were part of Smith’s showcase.
“Your Voice” and “Runaway Love” were part of Nuyen’s show.
“Coffee Weights and Curtains”, “What Will Complete Us” and “Fragments of Soul” were performed by Birney.
After beginning Leatherwood’s portion with “My Heart” and “I Don’t Care”, he mentioned “Let Me Be” was written in South Korea. He stated it was written on base, when he was part of the Air Force. “Love Letter” and “My Friends” were also part of his recital. He took first place.
Neal returned with “I’m Right Here” and “Pray For Me”.
Fugit’s performance included “Fall Away”, “Bury This”, “This Time”, “Tomorrow’s Past”, “Sea of Hate” and “Solid State”.
Judge and radio disc jockey of WQRB Surf 97.3 FM, Joe Meneo, closed out the Finn’s Beachside Pub Indie Artist Competition with his rendition of Alabama’s “Dixie Land Delight”.
