ST. AUGUSTINE – Alter brought their gospel to Planet! Sarbez!, on March 11. They were the opening act, along with Lines In The Sky. Stereo-Type was the direct support and Less Than A Sea was the headliner.
Austyn Sullivan is the guitarist and vocalist, Tyler Davis is the bassist and Robert Hansen is the drummer of Alter.
Prior to Alter’s performance, Sullivan spoke into the microphone and introduced the band to the audience. He went onto say it was their first time performing in Fla. He advised them they had merchandise for sale, including compact discs (CDs). Then, he thanked everyone for coming out the show. At the count of Hansen’s strikes of his drum sticks, they began their showcase with “Memory’s Echo”. As Davis played, he faced his back to the audience and played his bass towards his monitor.
After drinking their beverages, Alter continued their recital with “Walls”. Davis began to head bang and maneuver his head in circles, as he struck the strings of his bass. As Sullivan continued to provide vocals and strum his guitar, he placed his foot on the pedal of his pedal board and manipulated the sound.
Hansen returned to facing the back towards the crowd, as Alter ended their show with “Hands of Time”. As Hansen struck his drum set, one of the cymbals was struck so hard it tilted away from him. It remained in the position, until the end of the concert. Sullivan kneeled down and played his guitar, as he turned the knobs on his pedal board. After the song was brought to an end, Sullivan thanked the crowd for being present.
“Déjà vu” was also part of Alter’s set.
Shortly after Alter cleared the stage for Lines In The Sky’s performance, they were interviewed on the patio of the venue. When asked which bands they wanted to tour with, Davis cited he would like to go on tour with Sunn O. For a band in the past, he chose Black Sabbath. Hansen chose Built to Spill. Sullivan picked Boris and Deftones. When asked who they would like to share a festival stage with past or present, they chose: Captain Beefheart, Sunn O, Black Sabbath, Boris, Notorious B.I.G., Cursive and Interpol.
Other questions asked of Alter were their upcoming projects and where they could be found on the social networking sites. For the complete interview with Alter, please click below.
