Sareth Ney: What inspired you to perform stand-up comedy?
Ann Walker: The reason I was inspired to perform stand-up was because laughter has been (still is) such a healing force in my life. Plus, I'm just a silly girl. So, it works out.
SN: What was the feeling like, when you first performed stand-up comedy?
AW: When I first performed stand-up, it was weird because I got “punked” into doing it. I didn't know that I was going up. I had never been to an open mic before and didn't even know what it was. My friends thought it would be a hoot to call me on stage. I got up there, talked and gave them the "I'm gonna kick your a-- when I'm done” look. All and all it was a fun experience. Honestly—I don't think I would have gotten up there, otherwise.
SN: What are your favorite comedy specials and record albums?
AW: As far as comedy specials—Lavell Crawford “Can a Brother Get Some Love?” , all of Trevor Noah's specials, all of Wanda Sykes’, Whoopi Goldberg's first, Bryan Callen’s “Man Class”, Chris Porter’s “Ugly and Angry”, all of Eddie Murphy’s, Richard Pryor’s and D.L. Hughley’s. Dude, there are so many more but that's just the surface. As far as record albums (I see we're time travelling now), all of Richard Pryor’s and Redd Foxx’s.
SN: What are your favorite sketch shows, sitcoms and comedy films?
AW: Okay, sketch shows: “In Living Color”, “Saturday Night Live” (“SNL”) and “The State”. Sitcoms: “Sanford and Son”, “The Jeffersons”, “I Love Lucy” and “Modern Family”. Comedy films: “Hot Tub Time Machine”, “Hot Tub Time Machine 2”, “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”, “The Heat”, “Blankman” and too many more to name.
SN: If you could go on tour with any comedian, which one would you choose?
AW: It would be Trevor Noah. He's always on the move globally and his timing is impeccable with brilliant material.
SN: If you could get roasted by five comedians (past or present), which ones would you choose?
AW: If I could get roasted by five comedians past or present they would be: D.L. Hughley, Redd Foxx, Chris De'lia, Wanda Sykes and Whoopi Goldberg.
SN: Which other forms of comedy would you like to venture off into?
AW: Other forms of comedy would be: voiceover for cartoons, comedy writing for late shows and comedy films.
SN: What experience would you like for your audience to take with them, after a set is over?
AW: After my set is over, I would like the audience to take with them a lighthearted feeling of butterflies and bliss. Also—that life isn't as serious as we make it out to be, a lot of times.
SN: Where do you see your comedy career, in the next five years?
AW: In the next five years, I see my comedy career going global. I see film work and those cartoon voiceovers and possibly comedy writing for a late show.
SN: Where can the readers find you online and on social media?
AW: The readers can find me at: www.comediannwalker.com. Also, tweet me at @lzxybot. If you feel so inclined, Facebook me: www.facebook.com/ann.walker.353
