DES MOINES, Iowa – Beast Village Comedy Festival’s submission process is open and the early bird submission fee is $20. The amount will remain at the price, until July 5. The festivities will be held over two days, from Oct. 6 through Oct. 7. It will feature comedians from local and regional areas, as well as national headliners. 35 comedians will be chosen.
After the early bird deadline of July 5, the submission fee will increase to $30. However, Beast Village Comedy Festival encourages those interested to submit to look for the one day sale. Entries will be accepted until July 20. Monetary compensation will not be distributed. However, those selected to perform will receive: an official festival t-shirt, a few free meals, drinks and entry to a “raging party”. All out of town comedians will receive two opportunities to perform. Payments are accepted through Paypal. Forms of payments via Paypal accepted are: Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover or through bank accounts.
In the application process, Beast Village Comedy Festival requests the following for videos submitted: set videos to public or unlisted, videos set to private will not be viewable, clearest audio and video, begin as close to the first joke as possible, between five and seven minutes long and be one continuous recording. The festival only views up to seven minutes and a montage of footage will not be considered. Required information: name, email address, video link, image link and bio. Website and Twitter handles are optional.
In 2008, the comedy scene in Des Moines’ East Village began to grow. It first started with Underground Comedy at The House of Bricks. The Beechwood Lounge followed with The Bomb Shelter Showcase, in 2010. Then, an open mic started at the old Underground and is currently known as Up/Down. Since the start of Beast Village Comedy Festival four years ago, local businesses and comedians from local to national levels help made the event possible.
Past headliners of Beast Village Comedy Festival were: Dave Ross, Timmy Williams (“The Whitest Kids U’ Know”), Andy Sandford, Derek Sheen, Baron Vaughn, Kristin Rand, Nick Vatterott (“No Outlet”), Ian Karmel (“Conan”) and Janelle James.
2016’s sponsors of Beast Village Comedy Festival were: Fugitive Apparel Co., Lefty’s Live Music, undergroundcomedy.com, Felix and Oscars, Black Cat Ice Cream, Cape’s Kafe, Tacopocalypse, Ricochet and Confluence Brewing Co.
