PUEBLO, Colo.—Black List Books opened up a new chapter at Venue 1925, on Oct. 17. They were the opening act, along with Randy Bennett. The Redheads Britta-N-Brooke was the direct support and The Widowhood Effect was the headliner.
Robert Deaguero is the vocalist and guitarist and Justin Sauvageu is the guitarist of Black List Books.
Prior to beginning Black List Books performance with “Heartless”, Sauvageu set up the stage. He placed a stool between his chair and Deaguero’s. After resting the set list on top of it—he placed his beverage and vodka on top, to keep it in place. Sauvageu and Deaguero parted the stage, the house music silenced and the announcer exchanged out their guitar cables. After the house announcer announced the band’s name—they returned to the stage, introduced the song and began.
Before the start of “Dance”, Deaugero took a drink of vodka and chased it down with his own beverage.
Afterwards, Sauvageu followed drank the vodka and proceeded to chase it. After quenching his thirst, he introduced the song’s title and encouraged everyone to dance. After Deaugero readjusted his capo on one of his frets, the song began. Deaugero coughed and laughed at the same time. He halted the music, after the liquid went down the wrong pipes. Then, they restarted the song.
As “Lies” was about to get underway, Sauvageu thanked the audience for being in attendance. He went onto thank the venue and how nice the stage had looked. He acknowledged the other acts on the bill. Shortly after, Deaguero attempted to drink and Sauvageu said he finished the last of the vodka. As he placed the bottle back on the stool, the cap of the bottle rolled away from them and he said it had made matters worse.
Deaugero stated Black List Books would go from one sad song to another, before the continued their recital with “Don’t Let Life Get You Down”. He promised the audience they would return to happier songs, mentioned they would go from sad to happy and called the transition “sappy”.
“Billy The Hero” brought an end to Black List Books. Deaugero joked how the band’s name was still working in progress. He went onto say he might change the name to “Land Pirates Singing”, for the next time they perform.
“By The Swing” and “Living The Dream” were also part of Black List Books’ set.
