The Comedy Zone of Jacksonville's stage set for Bruce Bruce

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Bruce Bruce will bring his stand-up comedy routine to The Comedy Zone of Jacksonville, from May 26 through May 29. The leg of the tour kicks off at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, on May 7. It will conclude with three dates at the Funny Bone in Toledo, Ohio, from Dec. 2 through Dec. 4. He is a stand-up comedian, actor and an author.
After graduating from high school, Bruce Bruce became a chef. While preparing barbeque dishes, he would entertain customers with his sense of humor. After his culinary arts career ended, he worked for Frito-Lay. When he was away from fixing displays, he would perform his comedy routine at corporate meetings.
While residing in Atlanta, Bruce Bruce performed at the Comedy Act Theater. When the opportunity to perform on BET’s Coast to Coast presented itself, he went to every club hosting the events and auditioned. He would go onto appear on the program three times.
In 1993, Bruce Bruce made his first television appearance and was on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam. One year later, he appeared on Showtime at the Apollo. He was asked to perform two more times, the following year. He returned to BET and hosted two seasons of BET’s “Comic View”, in celebration of their 10th anniversary. He hosted another BET program, “Coming to the Stage”, for two seasons.
Comedy specials for Bruce Bruce followed, shortly after. His first was “Comedy Central Presents”. It was followed by his DVD special, “Bruce Bruce Live” and “Losin’ It: Live From Boston”. His book was released and titled, “Baby James Brown”. He has performed at comedy festivals too.
Film credit for Bruce Bruce include “Hair Show”, as Lime Pimp. The character was his own creation and he played opposite Mo ‘Nique. He portrayed DeWayne in “The Wash” with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. His other film credits included: “Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector”, “XXX: State of the Union”, “Who’s Your Caddy”, “Top Five” and IFC’s “Maron”.
Music videos have featured Bruce Bruce. They include: “Salt Shaker” by Ying Yang Twins featuring Lil’ Jon and the East Side Boyz, “Come On Ride the Train (Ride It)” by Quad City DJs, “So Fresh, So Clean” by Outkast and KEM’s “You’re On My Mind”.
