FLAGLER BEACH, Fla.—Capt. Nick put all their hands on deck at Johnny D’s Beach Bar and Grill, on April 6. They performed a three hour set incorporating a slew of original songs and a few cover songs. Nick Nicholson provided the vocals and strummed the guitar and Dana Nicholson played the electric drum kit and struck the cajón.
“7/10 of a Mile” began Capt. Nick’s recital. Nick Nicholson stated how the song was about a stretch of a road located in Key West, Fla and compared it to the bridge in Flagler Beach. He asked the onlookers if they had been to those parts of the state and the crowd cheered, with their reaction. After it ended, they continued with “Around the World”.
“Bad Decision”, “The Beach”, “Call of the Sea”, “Don’t Step on the Jellyfish”, “Drank My Drink”, “Drinkin’ Time”, “Flagler Beach”, “Key West Train” and “Long Walk on the Beach” were also part of Capt. Nick’s first set.
Before the start of “Karaoke Night”, Nick Nicholson spoke of the inspiration behind the song. He was told he would be paid $50 to play at a venue, Buffalo Joe’s. When he arrived, he saw a karaoke machine taking his place and the price of entertainment was free. He incorporated his brother into the story and his run in with the law, tying both conclusions together and the crowd laughed at the punch line.
“Most of All”, “My Favorite Place”, “Note in the Bottle”, “Nothin’ Better to Do”, “Open Toed Shoes”, “Cody’s Song” and “Blues Jam” were also part of Capt. Nick’s second set.
“Shipwrecked” ended Capt. Nick’s concert. As Nick and Dana Nicholson played the opening instrumental, viewers rose from their seats and danced in the limited space provided. After each time the song’s title was sung, everyone sang after Nick Nicholson and it caused an echo effect. Dana Nicholson noticed how involved the audience had become with it and she smiled at them, as she struck her drum set. After the song came to an end, Nick Nicholson thanked the crowd and looked forward to next time.
“Waking Up Under the Pier”, Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues”, Willie Nelson’s “Crazy”, “Island Time”, “Moody Bridge”, “Codi’s Song”, The Allman Brothers Band’s “Melissa”, Wilson Pickett’s “Mustang Sally”, Lyle Lovett’s “If I Had a Boat”, Willie Nelson’s “Whisky River” and “Swamp Rat” were also part of Capt. Nick’s third set.
