COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Casey Dean Frase described himself as a “25-year-old, going on 16 and with a hint of 65”. Even though he is afraid of heights, he loves getting high. Romantically, he is sensual. He owns 10,000 spoons, has a wide knowledge of both the comic book and horror film worlds. When it comes to performing comedies, he labeled himself as the “ride or die b***h”. In his free time—he loves to perfect his craft in comedy, he loves to read comic books, he enjoys submerging himself in graphic novels and smoking marijuana in the process.
Frase grew up in a respectable neighborhood with highly regarded parents. With the upbringing, it was difficult for him to find material from his life. His style is “observational humor”, “mostly made up” and “self-deprecating”. Self-deprecating in a sense in which he loves to poke fun at his mental and physical features. He remembers the first time he performed stand-up comedy, how good it felt and the reason he continues to perform comedy.
When Jim Carrey portrayed Andy Kaufman in the film, “Man On The Moon”, it inspired Frase to pursue comedy because he considers Carrey and Kaufman as his heroes. If Frase was to embark on a tour with comedians from the past and present, the opening acts would be: “Weird Al” Yankovic, Gallagher and Charlie Chaplin. The direct support would be Frase and the headliner would be Kaufman. When it comes to the tradition of a comedy roast—he would love to have John Brown, Charlie McMullen, PJ Palone, Wade Ridley, Paul Rosales and Ben Verbeck to do the honors. He mentioned he could not imagine other comics to do so, due to the bonds he built with them.
During the last two months—Frase attempted to join a local improvisational troupe in Colorado Springs, Colo. He will be looking forward to receive their response and he hopes to be accepted to be a part of the experience. In the meantime, he has his fingers crossed.
Over the next five years, Frase hopes his comedy will lead to love making. He stated it was the only reason why he chose to pursue comedy. He also hopes the Colo. comedy scene continues to grow, within the time frame. He cited with the introduction of recreational marijuana (as well as medical marijuana), the scene is bound to get bigger and bigger.
