Film and soundtrack of "Chi-Raq" share release date

New York – The film and soundtrack of “Chi-Raq” was released, on Dec. 4. The film was directed by Spike Lee. It was co-written by Lee and Kevin Willmott. The soundtrack features well-known artists and up-and-coming music artists from Chicago, as well.
“Chi-Raq” stars Angela Bassett, Nick Cannon, John Cusack, Steve Harris, Jennifer Hudson, Samuel L. Jackson, Harry Lennix, Teyonah Parris, Wesley Snipes and D.B. Sweeney. The film is a modern day take of Aristophanes’ Greek play, “Lysistrata”. The plot is about a murder of a young boy who was struck by a stray bullet, causes a group of women to from an organization. The group is led by Parris’ character, Lysistrata. As a unit—they defy the nature of race, sex and violence in the south side of Chicago and go on to impact the world.
Google Play, amazon.com and iTunes took pre-orders for the soundtrack of “Chi-Raq”, on Nov. 13. When pre-ordered, five tracks were available for instant download including: Nick Cannon’s “Pray 4 My City”, “Contradiction by Mali Music and Jhené Aiko, Jennifer Hudson’s “I Run”, Sam Dew’s “Desperately” and “Simple by Treasure Davis featuring Kid Ink. On Dec. 4, it was made available to stream on Amazon Prime Music.
Lee spoke of the soundtrack for “Chi-Raq” and stated, “I’m honored and excited to share with you the great music from ‘Chi-Raq’.” Thank you for listening to the established and brand new artists. Real music folks. Peace and love. Ya-dig? Sho-nuff.”
