ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Corazón’s Live Comedy Night’s one year anniversary was celebrated at The Corazón Cinema and Café, on Dec. 8. The event was hosted by Marc Stone. The opening act was Tez Brooks, the direct support was Andre “Rude Boy” Ferrell and it was headlined by Edward “EJ Nonstop” Hickson.
Brooks is a comedian residing in Fla. and performs throughout the state. Hickson and Ferrell are touring comics and are currently making tour stops throughout Fla. Nonstop is from Brooklyn, N.Y. Ferrell is a veteran and is stationed in Baltimore.
Prior to celebrating the Corazón’s Live Comedy Night at The Corazón Cinema and Café one year anniversary, Stone was interviewed. He recalled the theater was once a rundown $1 multiplex. He continued onto say a lady residing in Orlando, Fla. had purchased it and she wanted to renovate it. Stone cited of how excited he was about going to a place to watch old school and independent movies. He believed it was great for the community.
After the renovation—the owner asked how she could make the slow nights, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, more successful. Stone suggested they have comedy nights, the first night was successful and he would host it. After one year, the Corazón’s Live Comedy Night still excites him.
Stone warmed the crowd up with a stand-up routine, before he introduced Brooks to the crowd. Brooks material consisted of what was personal to him, including his family. He also interacted with the audience and discovered how long some couples of their relationships had lasted. He joked about how he was craving another beer. One spectator overheard him from the lobby and purchased one for him.
Stone mentioned Ferrell could be seen on the Netflix original program, “House of Cards”. Ferrell made his way up to the stage and questioned the method of eating a popular yogurt brand. During his set, he mentioned he was deployed twice. He had merchandise for sale and a portion of the proceeds would go towards the Wounded Warrior Project.
Hickson closed out the one year anniversary showcase of Corazón’s Live Comedy Night and he also interacted with the audience, during his set. After learning about a couple had been together for 13 years earlier in the evening, Hickson incorporated the topic into his performance. He brought music into his bit and put his spin on The Trammps’ “Disco Inferno” and Adele’s “Hello”.
