JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Filter was one of the opening acts on the Monster Energy Metropolitan Stage at Monster Energy Welcome To Rockville, on April 30. Lacey Strum, Candlebox and Pop Evil were the other openers. Collective Soul was the direct support and 3 Doors Down was the headliner.
Richard Patrick is the vocalist, Oumi Kapila is the guitarist and backup vocalist, Ashley Dzerigian is the bassist, Chris Reeve is the drummer and Bobby Miller is the sound designer, keyboardist and backup vocalist of Filter.
As Filter walked onto the stage, they were greeted with cheers. Patrick introduced the band to the spectators and they began their showcase with “You Walk Away”. After the song came to an end, Patrick noticed a familiar face in the crowd. The fan went by “Bubba” and Patrick greeted him from the stage.
Patrick stated the next song was from Filter’s recent album, “Crazy Eyes”, and they continued with “Nothing In My Hands”. During the song, Patrick requested the sound technician to turn his vocals up and he rotated one of the monitors to face the audience. During the chorus, Kapila assisted with backup vocals.
“Bubba” was acknowledged again, before Miller and Kapila began “Pride Flag”. Towards the end of the song, Patrick sang a cappella. After song ended, Dzerigian and Reeve led the way into “Welcome To The Suck (Destiny Not Your Luck”).
During “Burn It”, Patrick requested the audience to raise their arms and they obeyed. After the song had ended, he stated riots take place because there was no one listening to people and they became the voiceless. He went onto say he wanted to try new industrial sounding material and Filter began their next song, “Mother E”. After the song ended, he reminded the onlookers about their new album.
Spectators were given the opportunity to vote for which song Filter should conclude their performance. Patrick gave them the opportunity to choose between three songs: “Welcome To The Fold”, “Take A Picture” and “Hey Man, Nice Shot”. After each title was announced, the crowd cheered. “Hey Man, Nice Shot” ended up being the winner, out of the three. Shortly after, Dzerigian performed the opening bass line and the crowd cheered her on.
Other notable performances took place on the Monster Energy Welcome To Rockville River Stage included: Big Jesus, Cane Hill, Miss May I, Enter Shikari, Crown The Empire and Escape The Fate.
