DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – “Guffpunch” will be showcased at Cinematique Theater of Daytona, on Feb. 6. The film was written and directed by Sean Beagan and Joe Duenas. It stars Anthony Francis, Plus Pierre, Noam Manor and Michael Cintron. Original music was provided by Tight Creeps & Chaucer.
Filmed on a $3,000 budget, “Guffpunch” follows four comedians (Sean, Plus, Tony, Mike) in the south Fla. area. Sean attends school and despises it. Plus is an open mic’ comedian, plans to move to New York City and hopes to take his comedy to the next level. Tony is an introvert and dislikes his day job. Mike is a small town comedy booker with an addiction to vices. They perform stand-up comedy anywhere they can. Locations range from dive bars to small clubs. Also, they perform for little or no pay. All of them hope to make a career out of the experiences.
Pre-production of “Guffpunch” began on Nov. 30, 2014. Prior to 2015, the filmmakers vowed to begin the filmmaking process. On Feb. 1, 2015, they began a Kickstarter campaign and attempted to raise $2,000. By March 4, 2015, they reached their goal by raising $2,035 and with help of 66 backers. Rewards offered were a thank you in the credits and the first cut of the DVD. On March 29, 2015, it was announced they had purchased and tested the equipment to begin filming. Cast and the locations for the film had also been chosen.
By April 17, 2015, the filmmakers wrapped production and began the editing process. On Aug. 9, 2015, a sound tech was hired to assist with post production. Then, it was presented to the second mixer. It was announced on Nov. 2, 2015 they had completed the filmmaking process. They were shipping it off to film festivals throughout the country and were in search of distribution.
After the screening of “Guffpunch”, an after party will be held at the Tir na nOg Irish Pub. It will be hosted by The Last Laugh Open Mic Comedy and Matt Elliott. Cast members will be in attendance and comedians will be performing five minute sets. It will begin at 9 p.m.
A second screening of “Guffpunch” was announced for the central Fla. area. It will take place at the Kelsey Theatre in Lake Park, Fla, on March 5. The theater run of the two screenings is sponsored by Calzone Spaceship.
