ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.—Hollis Brown brought their style of American rock to The St. Augustine Amphitheatre, on August 2. They were the opening act, Citizen Cope was the direct support and Counting Crows was the headliner.
Mike Montali is the vocalist and guitarist, Jonathan Bonilla is the guitarist, Dillon Devito is the bassist, Andrew Zehnal is the drummer and Adam Bock is the keyboardist for Hollis Brown. Devito and Bock also provides backup vocals.
As Hollis Brown walked on stage, they were welcomed with cheers. As they each reached their positions on stage—Counting Crows’ vocalist, Adam Duritz, spoke into his microphone and introduced the band to the crowd. Shortly after, they began their performance with “Sweet Tooth”.
During “3 Shots”, Montali took a break from providing vocals. He stepped onto one of the monitors near front and center of the stage. As he did so, he continued to strum his guitar. While he did so, he looked towards the onlookers and they cheered in response.
Prior to the start of “Wait For Me Virginia”, Montali spoke briefly to the viewers. During the choruses, Devito and Bock assisted with backup vocals. When Hollis Brown slowed down the tempo and quietly played, Montali provided the vocals. Soon after, they sped up the tempo and finished the song strongly.
Montali mentioned “Ride On The Train” was the first song from their album released in 2013 with the same name. As he introduced the song, Zehnal created a more electric sound from his drum set by striking his drum machine. As Devito and Bock had done with the songs prior, they provided backup vocals. This time around, they assisted Montali with every other set of vocals during the verses. While Devito struck his bass, he used the sleeves covering both of his biceps to wipe the perspiration from his face.
“Rain Dance” brought in the conclusion to Hollis Brown’s recital. Before they ended their performance with the song, Montali thanked the spectators for attending their portion of the show. Shortly after they ended their performance, Montali encouraged them to meet up with him and Bonilla at the merchandise booth. He stated how he was looking forward to the next time they perform in front of the crowd again. As they parted the stage—Duritz, reappeared on the stage and reintroduced the band to the onlookers.
“Faith-n-Love” was also part of Hollis Brown’s set.
