JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hopson Road led them to Jack Rabbits, on July 24. They were the direct support and My Only Safe Haven was the headlining act.
Chevy Oakes is the vocalist, Hunter Hileman is the guitarist, James Cissel is the bassist, Ian Poland is the keyboardist and Christian Pittman is the drummer of Hopson Road. Pittman provided backup vocals.
After Hopson Road approached the stage, Oakes spoke into the microphone and encouraged everyone to come closer. The majority of the crowd rose to their feet from their seats and rushed to the stage. Then, they began their performance with “Stay With Me”.
Prior to “Faux”, Cissel threw his hat into the crowd. Oakes leaped off the stage and joined the spectators. Cissel converted to become the keyboardist, Pittman took
over the guitar and vocal duties, Hileman became the bassist and Poland provided percussions with the drums. After the song came to a conclusion, everyone went back to their original instruments and Oakes jumped back on stage to cover Pink Floyd’s “Time”.
“Man and His Ways” was the eighth song Hopson Road performed. Pittman introduced it and stated it would recorded and be on their upcoming extended play (EP). He assisted with vocals.
Before the start of Ween’s “Ocean Man”—Oakes announced the song was from the cartoon, “Spongebob Squarepants” and asked if anyone had been a fan of the cartoon. During the performance, Cissel played his bass and walked down towards the side of the stage. He returned back to stage and walked back down. As he was surrounded by those in attendance, he leaped up and down and struck his bass. As he did so, those surrounding him jumped along with him and he made his way back shortly after.
“Come a Little Closer” brought an end to Hopson Road’s showcase. Oakes encouraged everyone to stick around for My Only Safe Haven’s portion of the night and thanked them for having on the bill with them. He went onto say if it were not for them to perform the evening, they would have not had the opportunity to have played at the venue. As they performed, some of their fans joined them on stage and danced beside Cissel and Poland.
The Killers’ “When You Were Young”, “Lucid”, Hippocampus’ “South”, “Free To Be”, Cage the Elephant’s “Spiderhead” and The Black Keys’ “Tighten Up” were also part of Hopson Road’s set
