ATLANTA – HT Rosen’s father, Al Rosen, was his inspiration to perform stand-up comedy. During his upbringing, “humor and cadence” consistently was part of his life. Comedians in their prime (in the 80s and 90s) were shown and he considered them his heroes.
When HT Rosen first performed stand-up comedy—he felt a mixture of fear, failure and excitement. The three feelings spun inside of him, during his five minutes of stage time. He also described the feeling as electric. Recently, he filmed a set at the Apollo Theater in New York.
Comedy specials and record albums HT Rosen considered as his favorites were Rodney Dangerfield’s comedy performances on cable and Eddie Murphy’s “Raw” on vinyl. He recalled watching the late Friday night 30 minute specials on Comedy Central too. The old episodes of “Mad TV”, earlier episodes of “Saturday Night Live” and & “Key & Peele” were considered HT Rosen’s staples, when it came to sketch shows. In regards to Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, he continued to state it was “nice to see two comics thrive together on stage”. Films featuring John Candy or Bill Murray were always well-liked because they gave HT Rosen a fresh laugh, even in today’s climate.
If HT Rosen could go on tour with any comedian, he chose anyone he had a great admiration for. One of which was Jordan Stylez. Together they formed the duo known as “A Jew and Black Guy”. If HT Rosen could get roasted by past or present comedians, he chose the following: George Carlin, Dangerfield, Bill Burr, Mel Brooks and Alia Ghosheh.
Other forms of comedy HT Rosen plans to try are television, especially sitcoms. On Feb. 10 and 11—he and Stylez will be performing their comedic set in front of producers at “America’s Got Talent” via an invite from the producers. In the next five years, he hopes to bring A Jew and A Black Guy to television.
After each performance—HT Rosen hopes the spectators remember his performance. They are filled with multiple musical instruments, funny songs, one liners, crowd work and crazy bits. Hopefully, they continue to quote him afterwards. His motto is, “Butts in seat, sell the drinks and be funny.”
Online and on social media, HT Rosen can be found on Facebook. He is on Instagram and YouTube, with footage from television. Together with Stylez, their website can be found at ajewandablackguy.com.
