PUEBLO, Colo.—Four local bands brought an end to 2014 and another was the first and last to perform at Phil’s Radiator in 2015, during the transition to the new year. Into Awakening and Häj Päj were the opening acts, Bleed To Death was the direct support and Ashes Of The Ancient was the headliner.
After Into Awakening performed—they were interviewed and spoke of what Phil’s Radiator meant to them. Vocalist, Nick Calderon, called it his home base and only place to jam. Drummer, Dan Vigil, mentioned it was a place to express himself and to work out his art. Vocalist and guitar, Rick Zinum, stated how the venue was about unity and how it could never be defined. Lead guitarist, Jeremiah Edwards, cited it was where he learned how to mosh and a fun place to be.
Prior to Häj Päj’s performance, Germball and Da Joker took photos of audience members who wore their t-shirt. Germball allowed a fan to borrow his permanent marker to obtain autographs from all bands on the bill. After “Bash Brains” and the circle pit had subsided, Da Joker’s guitar had broken. Guitarist and vocalist of Bleed To Death and Ashes Of The Ancient, Michael Sword, provided his guitar for Da Joker to play. Ras Christian Marker and Rocky Sandoval led Häj Päj into the next song.
Bleed To Death was next on the bill and had the most mosh pits. Midway through the set, Sword mentioned his throat was parched. Guitarist and vocalist of Burns Like Hell, Randy Sanchez, came to the rescue and allowed Sword to drink out of his beverage. Between songs, Andrew Lopez held out both pinky fingers and placed his fists together to create the ultimate devil horns. Ronan “Moudi” Nielsen’s parents recorded and took photos of his drumming and Hunter Felicia played guitar on a couple songs.
Ashes Of The Ancient waited until 2015 and they invited the majority of the crowd to stand with them on stage, as they counted down to the new year. Ka*Mitt’s Skateshop’s, Ricky Deherrera, bought a round of shots to toast. After Sword mentioned it was the last sound check ever, Anthony Soto struck his drums as rapidly as he could. Then, Sword spoke of his decade-long legacy coming to an end. At the end of their set—co-owner, Mark Lovato, walked on stage. He went onto provide a closing speech.
