JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – J. Anthony Brown will be performing five sets at Comedy Zone-Jacksonville, from Nov. 3 through Nov. 5. The first show will be at 7:30 p.m., on Nov. 3. He will perform twice on Nov. 4 and Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. The venue is located at 3130 Hartley Road. Tickets are $25, $30 and $112.50 each. Along with the $112.50 price of admission—patrons will receive dinner at Gigi’s, tickets to the show, one night stay at the Ramada Mandarin and the tickets must be purchased in pairs. The prices exclude service fees and tax. He is an actor, stand-up comedian and radio personality.
Born and raised in S.C., Brown relocated to Atlanta in 1972 to go to school to become a clothing designer. Short of slightly over $300 to pay for the rest of the tuition, he entered a “gong show” type of contest at a local club. After his performance, he was requested to return and begin his own weekly event.
After Atlanta, Brown moved to Los Angeles and he became the head staff writer for “The Arsenio Hall Show”. Writing credits consisted of: “Tom Joyner TV Show”, “Steve Harvey’s Big Time”, “Me and the Boys” and “The Parent ‘Hood”. He was the former host of “Comic View” and “Club Comic View”, on BET. He portrayed Pop on the television show, “Like Family”, on the WB. Holly Robinson Peete (“Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper”) was one of his co-stars. His other television credits included “Def Comedy Jam”, “It’s Showtime at the Apollo”, “Evening at the Improv”, “Tom Joyner TV Show”, “Tom Joyner Sky Show”, “Dlife-Diabetes Talk Show”, “Eve”, “The Parkers”, “Living Single”, “Martin”, “Moesha”, “The Hughleys”, “Sparks”, “Oprah” and “The Rickey Smiley Show”. Film credits for Brown were: “xXx: State of the Union”, “Mr. 3000”, “Drumline” and “How to be a Player”.
For over nine years, Brown is a radio personality for the Tom Joyner Morning show and the program can be heard on over 195 markets. He hosts his own show, The J Anthony Brown Radio Show”, on the weekends. He owns The J Spot Comedy Club and author of “49 Shades of Brown”.
Returning to what Brown had went to school for, he has a clothing line called “The J. Anthony Brown Collection”. As an artist—he and Annie Lee had an art exhibit in the nation’s capital, in Nov. of 2005.
