PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Jamie Wells is a stand-up comedian, writer and actor based out of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Wells was inspired to perform stand-up comedy by watching the late comedian, Greg Giraldo, and viewing everything he was part of. After performing research about Giraldo’s history, Wells wanted to perform jokes in front of a crowd. When he first took the stage, he remembered feeling nervous and slightly terrified. At the same time, he recalled the feeling being strange because the weight was finally lifted from off of his chest.
During every stand-up comedy routine, Wells’ goal is to leave those in attendance gasping for air due to laughter. Also, he hopes his clever thinking continues to resonate in his audience’s mind long after he parts the stage.
Giraldo’s works, “Good Day To Cross A River” (2006) and “Midlife Vices” (2009), are some of Wells’ favorite comedy specials. “Midlife Vices” was Giraldo’s second and last album to be released from Comedy Central Records. He also enjoys Kurt Metzger’s Comedy Central special, “White Precious” (2014) and Daniel Tosh’s Comedy Central special “Daniel Tosh: Happy Thoughts” (2011).
Matt Groenig’s comedy television series, “The Simpsons”, Wells stated as his favorite comedy series. He also cited “Caddyshack” (1980) was his favorite comedy film is. It starred Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Murray and more.
If Wells had the opportunity to go on tour with any comedian, he chose Tosh. The reason being was because he enjoyed his comedy. He was also curious to see how reaching celebrity status would cause an effect on someone’s life and daily routine. In the tradition of a comedy roast, he had the option to choose any five comedians past or present to roast him. He chose the following: Giraldo, Rodney Dangerfield, Patrice O’Neal, Jeff Ross and Amy Schumer.
Other than stand-up comedy, Wells hopes to venture off into the world of film and television writing. In the next five years, he hopes to see himself as an all-around better comedian. He hopes to tell jokes beyond Jacksonville, Fla. and outside of the state of Fla. He plans to start off regionally and wants to tour the southeast.
