FLAGLER BEACH, Fla.—Jay Paski performed two sets at Finn’s Beachside Pub, on Aug. 10. It was during the weekly open mic’ nights, held every Monday evening. He played the guitar and provided vocals.
Prior to Paski’s performance—Tony Paul Neal, vocalist and guitarist of Next A’ Kin, gave him the option to go on next or have another act perform after Neal’s band. After Paski was chosen, he plugged his guitar into the sound system and introduced himself to the spectators. He mentioned he would play a few songs for them and he was welcomed by a round of applause. Then, he began his portion by covering Lifehouse’s “It Is What It Is”.
Palki’s second song, “Falling”, would was an original. He mentioned it was about being lost and being found. He lightened up the mood and said it was about his girlfriend trying to find something she lost in the house. He kept the jokes coming by saying it was about drunk people trying not to fall and sober people trying to stand up. He went onto say he had written the song the year before, thanked the crowd and continued his set.
Before Paski’s song, “Home”, he encouraged everyone to find him on facebook under his stage name. Shortly after, he mentioned the song was inspired by a relationship he was in. He stated he was engaged seven years ago. The passing of his fiancée was what brought an end to their engagement.
Mat Kearney’s “In The Middle”, Gavin Degraw’s “I Don’t Want To Be”, O.A.R.’s “Shattered (Turn This Car Around)” and Phillip Phillip’s “Home” brought an end to Jay Paski’s first set.
After two acts followed Paski, he returned to the stage. After replacing the batteries in his guitar and starting his second set with Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up”, he performed an encore performance of “Falling”. He requested for his performance to be recorded, for it was the single he wanted to promote.
Paski mentioned how the battery to his guitar died, while he attempted to perform Phillip Phillip’s “Home” the first time around. He spoke of how he wanted to give it another attempt. He accidentally burped into the microphone, apologized and joked how it was the bartender’s fault. After the song ended, he concluded his recital with an “Untitled” song.
“Home”, “Untitled” and “Untitled” were also part of Jay Paski’s second set.
