UMATILLA, Fla. – Jesse Rae Robinette’s has always been a fan of stand-up comedy. However, she never thought she would perform. After consuming too much alcohol, she signed up to take the stage. After sobering up, she tried to back away. However, the owner made her keep her word. She wrote five minutes of material and performed. Looking back on the experience, she stated it was a feeling of “gut wrenching anxiety”. She received a couple of laughs and experienced an “incredible high”.
Robinette’s favorite comedy specials and record albums include: Louis C.K.’s “Chewed Up”, Jim Breuer’s “Jim Breuer: Let’s Clear the Air” and Demetri Martin’s “Demetri Martin’s: Live (At the Time)”. She loves Breuer because she relates to his material and loves them, as a parent. During her upbringing, she remembers watching his stand-up. As for Martin’s, it is the first one she allows her daughter to watch containing curse words because it is special to her.
As for programs on the small screen, Robinette enjoys watching “Mad TV” and “Seinfeld”. For “Seinfeld”, she cites she can watch the show every day and for the rest of her life. Her current favorite is “F is for Family” because “it is the funniest damn thing”.
If Robinette could go on tour with any comedian, she chooses Kathleen Madigan. Robinette’s reason is she looks up to Madigan greatly, seems fun and easy going. If Robinette can get roasted by a set of comedians from the past and present, her picks are: Joan Rivers, Anthony Jeselnik, Rodney Dangerfield, Dave Attell and Jim Norton.
When it comes to other forms of comedy, Robinette will not seek out the different avenues to express her comedic side. However—if the opportunity arrives, she will give anything a try because it will provide her with a “good opportunity to grow”. In the next five years, she strives to be a headliner. As she is making small developments, she feels fortunate to be pursuing comedy.
After a set is over, Robinette hopes the onlookers laugh and forgets their worries. She wants them to see how everyone is the same, even though they appear to be different. She hopes people can relate to her as they listen to her words and it changes the way they see others.
