John Witherspoon to grace the stage of Comedy Zone-Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - John Witherspoon will be performing five stand-up comedy sets at Comedy Zone-Jacksonville, from Oct. 20 through Oct. 22. He will be performing at 7:30 p.m., on all three dates. He will also perform a late show starting at 9:45 p.m., on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22. Tickets prices are $22.50, $27.50 and $112.50. Prices do not include surcharges or service fees. The tickets for the late Oct. 22 showcase are sold out. He is an actor, stand-up comedian and producer.
Witherspoon was born in Detroit, on Jan. 27, 1942. As an actor—his career began as uncredited roles on “The Richard Pryor Show”, in 1977. “The Incredible Hulk”, “What’s Happening!!”, “Good Times” and “Barnaby Jones” completed his career in the 1970s.
In the 1980s, Witherspoon’s acting career included: “The Jazz Singer”, “WKRP in Cincinnati”, “Hill Street Blues”, “Ratboy”, “You Again?”, “Hollywood Shuffle”, “Kidnapped”, “227”, “What’s Happening Now!”, “Frank’s Place”, “Bird”, “Amen” and “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka”.
“House Party” was the first film Witherspoon was part of, in 1990. “The Five Heartbeats”, “Sunday in Paris”, “Talkin’ Dirty After Dark”, “Killer Tomatoes Strike Back”, “Boomerang”, “Bébé’s Kids”, “The Boys”, “The Meteor Man”, “Fatal Instinct”, “Martin”, “Townsend Television”, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, “Cosmic Slop”, “Murder Was The Case: The Movie”, “Friday”, “Vampire in Brooklyn”, “Killin’ Me Softly”, “A Delicatessen Story”, “Spring, “Waynehead”, “Fakin’ Da Funk”, “Living Single”, “Ride”, “Bulworth”, “I Got The Hook Up”, “High Freakquency” and “The Wayans Bros.” wrapped up his profession in the 1990s.
Starting the new century, Witherspoon returned in the sequel to “Friday” called “Next Friday”. He would co-star or provide voiceover work in: “Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child”, “The Ladies Man”, “Little Nicky”, “Dr. Dolittle 2”, “Friday After Next”, “The Proud Family”, “The Tracy Morgan Show”, “Soul Plane”, “Kim Possible”, “Pryor Offenses”, “Weekends at the DL”, “Littleman”, “Thugaboo: A Miracle on D-Roc’s Street”, “After Sex”, “The Super Rumble Mixshow” and “The Hustle”. He was the producer of “John Witherspoon: You Got to Coordinate”.
“Tosh.0” brought Witherspoon back onto the screen, after three years. “Chick Magnet”, “A Thousand Words”, “The Boondocks”, “Anger Management”, “The First Family”, “Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja”, “Black Jesus”, “Animals.”, “Black-ish” and “A Week in London” would follow.
“Bring Me the Head of Lance Henriksen” and “Ronnie: Cary Grant’s Younger Brother” are currently in post-production. Witherspoon also is the creator of greeting cards called “Spoon Cards”.
