TAVARES, Fla. - Every Oct., I look forward to horror conventions such as Spooky Empire. Ever since moving to Fla., my panel ideas have been selected and I hope to inspire fellow horror fans with each one. Due to the pandemic, a lot of conventions and large gatherings have to be postponed.
In the vendor area of each year at Spooky Empire, I have looked forward to dropping by the Coffee Shop of Horrors booth. The aroma in the air of the coffee draws me to it, each year. The free offerings of coffee helps power me through the panels.
Since Spooky Empire is going virtual with events, I noticed a new brick mortar location serving up Coffee Shop of Horrors Coffee at Jonesy’s Escape. From my residence, it takes me 96 minutes to 105 minutes to get there.
While being stuck in traffic, I called Jonesy’s Escape and spoke with Miranda. I told her I was going to be late and she said not to worry. They usually started their Wednesday double features when the majority of the audience were present. For the double feature, we viewed “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (1974) and “Hellraiser” (1987).
After arriving at Jonesy’s Escape, I was greeted by Miranda and told her I was the one customer who called earlier. Her body language matched her voice and she was kind. I ordered the baked peach fritter and The Thriller. The vanilla ice cream helped bring the caffeine level down and the whipped cream was a nice touch. The total came to $9, I gave Miranda $11 and told her to keep the rest. The pastry and the drink were drop dead delicious.
“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” movie began at 7:38 p.m. and it was in high definition. I viewed it with more attention to detail. There were a total of three of us. There were two times when patrons walked in, while the characters walked in each room in the movie. The synchronization was unreal.
When the film ended, the others asked if the second feature could be something “softer” and “fluffier”. They suggested “My Little Pony” and “Turbo”. They told me we lived in a democracy and I had the vote too. I went with “Hellraiser”. They requested we leave Jonesy’s Escape as a “group...as in together”.
Overall, I had a great experience. Visit Jonesy’s Escape on Facebook here and website here.
