Joy “Allah’s Favorite” Lane’s inspiration to perform stand-up comedy was by those around her. They told her she was funny. After entering a beauty pageant, she needed a talent to showcase and she performed stand-up comedy. When she showcased her comedic talent for the first time, she stated it was easy. The reason being was she had talked in front of large crowds prior, through teaching and lecturing. She continued to state she did not stress about it.
Lane’s favorite comedy specials and record albums included everything by Joan Rivers (“Don’t Start With Me”, “What Becomes a Semi-Legend Most?”), Carlos Mencia (“Not for the Easily Offended”, “Down to the Nitty Gritty”), D.L. Hughley (“Goin’ Home”, “The Original Kings of Comedy”), George Carlin (“You Are All Diseased”, “Back In Town”, etc.), “Racially Motivated” by Arnez J and everything featuring Paul Mooney (“Analyzing White America”). “Which Way Is Up?” with Richard Pryor was stated as Lane’s favorite comedy film.
There are three comedians Lane would like to go on tour with. She chose Paul Mooney, Tommy Too Smoov and “King” Talent Harris. If Lane could get roasted by comedians from the past and present, she chose: Carlin, Rivers, Mooney, Mencia and Hughley.
Other forms of comedy Lane would like to venture off into is improv.
“I don’t think that I am good at it and I really want to get better,” Lane stated.
After a set is over, Lane wants her audience to never have “a preconceived notion about or what” she is ever. She also wants them to know she is not the stereotypical Muslim woman comedian, the Black angry female comedienne or the Navy veteran stand-up comic. She hopes they go all “ride along and accept whatever comes”.
Over the span of the next five years, Lane hopes to have a 30 minute comedy special and continue to be on-air as a disc jockey. Her on-air personality is “Angry Black Woman” and she can be heard on ALT 101.9.
Online and on social media, Lane can be found at www.allahsfavorite.com. Her Twitter handle is @allahsfavorite and she can be found on Facebook by searching here name. She wanted to point out she had an interesting interaction with the person described as “The Facebook Killer” and how she received over 6,000 death threats.
