LOS ANGELES – Lucid Fly is set to release their debut album, “Building Castles In Air”, on Nov. 11. Nikki Lane is the vocalist and Doug Mecca is the guitarist. Their sound can be described as a mixture of progressive, alternative and dark rock.
“Visions of Grandeur” is Lucid Fly’s latest single from the record, “Building Castles In Air”. Crystal Spotlight’s Miles Skarin is the producer of the lyric video and can be viewed below. Along with the song, it features nine more tracks: “Billowy and Broken”, “Circles Into Squares”, “Mascot”, “No I In Voice”, “Ribbons”, “Follow Through”, “Next to Strange”, “The Opposite” and “Paperthin”. Forrestor Savell (Dead Letter Circus, Karnivool, Twelve Foot Ninja) is the producer and mixer.
Layne and Mecca issued a statement in regards to Lucid Fly’s upcoming release, “Building Castles In Air”.
“We wanted to tell the story, through more than just the words. Sonically, we experimented a lot with guitar and vocal tones, dynamics, and layers to capture some of the contrasting themes throughout the album – introspection, melancholy, longing, daydreaming, transformation and a sense of hope and optimism.”
Since Layne and Mecca formed a bond over 18 years ago, while in Orlando, Fla.—they have recorded three extended plays (EPs) together. In 2014, they were invited by Mike Portnoy (former drummer, backing vocalist and co-founder of Dream Theater) as one of 17 acts to perform at the Progressive Nation at Sea. They performed on the New Millennium Stage. Other bands part of the bill included: Periphery, Haken, Riverside, Animals As Leaders, Anathema, The Dear Hunter, Devin Townsend Project, Pain of Salvation, King’s X, Jon Anderson, Spock’s Beard, Anneke van Giersberge, The Flower Kings, Transatlantic, The Safety Fire, Bigelf, Beardfish, Jolly, Adrian Belew Power Trio, the Portnoy, Sheehan, MacAlpine, Sherinian and Tony Harnell & Bumblefoot.
Music groups Lucid Fly like are: 36 Crazyfists, A Perfect Circle, Baxter, Dead Letter Circus, Deftones, Dredg, Finger Eleven, Hooverphonic, Incubus, Karnivool, Mt. Helium, Muse, Mutemath, Puscifer, Queens of the Stone Age, Riverside, Sia, Team Spa, TesseracT, Them Crooked Vultures and Thirty Seconds to Mars.
