DENVER—Maurae was inspired to perform stand-up comedy after receiving a brain damage diagnosis from having chronic migraines. After getting word, she was not left with many options to work with. Steady work was out of the picture and she had to look for something which worked best with her symptoms.
When Maurae first performed stand-up comedy, she stated she was happy to have made a group of people laugh. Due to her brain damage, she did not feel nervous and felt exhilarated.
Some of Maurae’s favorite comedy records and comedy albums came from the following comics: George Carlin, Rita Rudner, Paula Poundstone, Elaine Busler, Gallagher and countless others. She liked the ones which made her think.
Favorite sketch show of Maurae’s was “The Carol Burnett Show”. Favorite sitcoms were “The Big Bang Theory and “Unfit”. She cited she had too many comedy films to name.
In recent times, Maurae wrapped up filming the first season of “Unfit”. The plot was about a gym in New Orleans. The genre was classified as a dark comedy. Her character was the nemesis to the main character and she described it as her favorite role ever.
If Maurae could go on tour, she chose anyone who would be willing to go on tour with her. To be specific—she chose Rita Rudner because she felt they would complement each other nicely. In the tradition of a comedy roast, Maurae would like to be roasted by the following past and present comedians: Carlin, Rudner, Poundstone, Busler and Gallagher.
Maurae had already been performing in uterine comedy and plans on staying for the long haul.
Traveling to perform stand-up comedy is in Maurae’s plans, in the next five years. She has considered relocating and wanting to continue to pursue the art form. She also wanted to take on more hosting gigs, including a talk show. She stated she would love it.
After a set has come to an end, Maurae would like her audience to feel enlightened and amused. She wanted them to leave with laughter and her punchlines to stay with them, for as long as their memory allowed. She would like for them to “empathize without being soft”.
Online and on social media, Maurae’s website is greeningsfromcolorado.com. She can be friended and/or followed under Maurae Gab on Facebook. Her Instagram handle is @therealmaurae. Her YouTube channels are Maurae Comedian and Greenings from Colorado.
