JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – My Only Safe Haven found comfort at Jack Rabbits, on July 24. They were the headliners, Hopson Road was the direct support and there was no opening act.
Kayla Saunders is the lead vocalist, Brian Sexton is the drummer, Preston Belcher is the guitarist and Taylor Ray plays the synth, keyboard and bass for My Only Safe Haven.
As My Only Safe Haven performed their first instrumental to their first “Intro”, the tempo increased in speed and Saunders encouraged the audience to keep up. As she jumped around on stage, the reaction by the crowd intensified. While she provided lyrics to “In God We Trust”, the momentum of the crowd slowed down.
Prior to “Anymore”, Saunders declared the song would be on My Only Safe Haven’s next extended play (EP). She cited after they wrap up the tour, they would head to Nashville, Tenn., meet up with their producer and record the tracks. After the song began—Ray played her synth and sang along with Saunders’ lyrics, without the use of a microphone. When the song concluded, she thanked the spectators for cheering them on.
Before the start of “Black & White”, Saunders mentioned the song could be heard on their previous EP. She proceeded to say the song could be found on many digital platforms. She stated the music video could be found on YouTube and it was My Only Safe Haven’s latest. As the song continued, Sexton provided a solo and Saunders made her way near the back of stage and
stood beside him. Shortly after, Belcher and Ray assisted with instrumentals and Saunders returned and provided lyrics.
Saunders spoke of My Only Safe Haven’s upcoming EP and state it was due out in the fall, as “Daydream” was about to get underway. She spoke of how they shared a festival stage with Underoath and New Found Glory, shortly after. She went onto say the song was one of the most highly energized songs they had.
For “This Is Your Story, Not A Goodbye Letter”, Saunders said the song was about suicide prevention. To raise awareness, she declared they had merchandise with the song title on them. She encouraged everyone to pick one up, if they had been impacted by it. As Sexton played his guitar, he sang along with Saunders.
“Intro”, “Can’t Get Enough”, and “Outro” were also part of My Only Safe Haven’s set.
