JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Nappy Roots will be performing at 1904 Music Hall, on Sept. 27. After taking a few days off—they will resume their tour to promote their album, “The 40 Akers Project”. They will begin again on Sept. 5 at Headquarters Live in Salisbury, Md. and it will conclude on Nov. 14 at Rabbit Hole in Charlotte, N.C.
Skinny Deville (also known as The Bluz Travela), Fish Scales, B. Stille (also known as Buffalo Stille) and Ron Clutch are the lyricists. 808 Blake of SMKA is the producer and disc jockey (DJ) of Nappy Roots.
808 Blake produced “The 40 Akerz Project” and it was released through Nappy Roots’ record label, Nappy Roots Entertainment Group (NREG). The album was available for purchase on May 5.
“…808 Blake goes with us on the road, he is a part of the group, they are family, it just made sense,” Skinny Deville spoke of 808 Blake.
“The 40 Akerz Project” was Nappy Roots’ sixth album and it was the fourth independent album they had made.
“… Reminding people how far we have come,” Fishscales added on. “Being independent, still don’t work for no one else, still work for ourselves… let’s celebrate”.
The track listing for “The 40 Akerz Project” include: “40 Akerz (Skit)”, “Party for the Ages”, “Tokyo”, “Melting Pot”, “Doesn’t Matter”, “Highs and Lows (Skit)”, “Window”, “Hazy”, “Ms. Cleo”, “The Scene from Collateral (Skit)”, “The Ditch”, “Facts”, “No Idea”, “The Ron Church Theory (Skit)”, “Call the Cops” and “Feeling Like”.
“Window is a big record for us. When we laid [sic] it down, the vibe in the studio was heavy, it’s [sic] like we all knew [sic] we made something special,” Skinny added.
Nappy Roots was formed at Western Kentucky University, in 1995. On Sept. 16, 2002, Ky. honored them their own holiday. Their song, “Good Day”, was released in 2008. It has been featured in the film, “Neighbors”, starring Seth Rogen and Zach Efron. It has also appeared in a Kellogg’s Special K commercial. They performed in 150 cities in 2014, took brief breaks and still touring.
