FLAGLER BEACH, Fla.—Next A’ Kin performed an acoustic set at Finn’s Beachside Pub, on July 29.
Tony Paul Neal is the lead vocalist and guitarist and Trey Geddings is the lead guitarist of Next A’ Kin.
Neal thanked the audience and the venue before Next A’ Kin opened their recital with “Home Sweet Home”. He advised them to take care of the staff for they are taking care of them. He introduced what the duo went by and introduced the song’s title. During the song, Geddings performed two guitar solos. While he did so, he manipulated the sounds on his foot pedal to make his acoustic guitar sound more electric.
After Neal wiped his face of sweat, Next A’ Kin continued their showcase with “Dog Song”. After a lengthy instrumental, he provided the lyrics. During the instrumental, they faced each other and took turns with a guitar solo. As Geddings had done earlier—he manipulated the sound to make his instrumental to sound more electric and Neal did the same, as well. They soon made a smooth transition into Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze”. Before the last solo, Neal asked the crowd for an “amen”.
Neal wiped the perspiration from his foreman, before Next A’ Kin played “I’m Right Here”. After he returned to the microphone, he mentioned the song was from their self-titled album. They soon opened with an instrumental. During the song, Geddings performed the solo. After the song came to an end, Neal thanked the spectators.
“Our Story” was described by Neal as a song for letting go. He mentioned he was open to taking requests from the onlookers and stated happy Wednesday, soon after. He joked with them as to how he would not play Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” because it reminded him of a county up north.
“Pharmacy Corner Walls” brought an end to Next A’ Kin’s performance. Neal dedicated it to one spectator in the crowd. He mentioned the song was about him getting clean, how he was tired of going to the pharmacy near his house and the doctor office visits. As he and Geddings played their guitars, they tapped their left heels and kept the balls of their feet on the ground.
Led Zeppelin’s “Hey, Hey, What I Can I Do”, Allman Brothers Band’s “Soul Shine” and Black Berry Smoke’s “Good One Comin’ On” were also part of Next A’ Kin’s set.
