In the early 1960s, Labelle began her performing arts career as the lead vocalist of Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. By the following decade, they would shorten their name to LaBelle. Shortly after, they released “Lady Marmalade” and become the first African-American musical group to be featured on the cover of Rolling Stone. By the mid-1970s, the group would break up. She would go onto find success throughout the following decades with number one songs and awards. She would continue to sell 50 million records worldwide. She reunited with her bandmates, in the early part of the 21st century.
LaBelle has starred in the film, “A Soldier’s Story”. Her television credits include: “A Different World”, “American Horror Story: Freak Show”, “Dancing with the Stars”, “Empire”, “Living It Up with Patti LaBelle”, “Out All Night” and “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. She has been honored by being inducted into the Apollo Theater Hall of Fame, Grammy Hall of Fame, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Songwriters’ Hall of Fame and earned World Music Awards’ Legend Award.
In 1996, LaBelle released her best-selling memoir known as “Don’t Block The Blesisngs”. One year later, she released five best-selling cookbooks. In the new millennium, she penned “Patti’s Pearls”. Her cookbooks would lead to becoming a successful baker and sauce maker.
After a YouTube vlogger, James Wright, gave LaBelle’s sweet potato pies a review—the video went viral. Her pies are sold at Wal-Mart, throughout the U.S. and they constantly sell out. She sells a variety of sauces through her online store via her website too. She also offers an array of recipes for almost every occasion, as well.
