PUEBLO, Colo. – Paul Rosales was transplanted to Colo. from Calif., when he was 15 years old. After pursuing music, he ended the venture and pursued comedy.
Steel City Stand Up began the first open mic’ nights at The Downtown Bar in Pueblo, Colo. Rosales heard about it through Charley McMullen. Rosales felt nauseous, at first. He remembered it being bad because it was difficult for him to hide his emotions. He remembered freaking out; raced through his jokes and it lasted two to three minutes. The feelings followed him for two years and currently in the process of getting over it.
Stories from Rosales’ personal life including his job, his cats, past and current girlfriends, what he consumes and his legal problems are incorporated in his routines. He chose to avoid topical and silly subjects because they do not sound genuine to him.
If Rosales planned a comedy tour, he would travel with: Andrew Bueno, John Bueno, Matthew Chapman and Evan Plys. He joked if Clint Stewart’s wife would let him go; Rosales would bring him along. If he were to get roasted—he would have the superhero, Wu-Man Chu, cloned six times and have him roast him. He chose him, due to his sexually explicit content. He predicted it similar to viewing a Shaw Brothers style, Kung Fu film.
In Rosales’ spare time, he collects horror VHS tapes and frequents the thrift stores. He searches through numerous amounts of bins and hopes to find a gem. He enjoys smoking cigarettes, people watching and is a fan of the Major League Soccer teams, Colorado Rapids and Sacramento Republic FC.
Cut It Out Crew is the newest troupe Rosales found himself in. Members also include, John Bueno, Plys and Chapman. Their first show will be at The Flux Capacitor, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Guests include the musical group, Night Of The Living Shred. Denver comedians Ian Douglas Terry and Andrew Bueno are scheduled to appear. He encourages everyone to mark their calendars for Sept. 19 and attend.
In the next five years, Rosales hopes to keep his stand-up comedy routines going. He plans to move to Denver with a few of his comedy friends, next Aug. He hopes his companions in his comedy troupe continue to pursue comedy in terms of touring and appearing at comedy festivals. As for the Colo. comedy scene, he sees it deceased because of the consumption.
