ORLANDO, Fla. – Rickey Smiley and Friends will be performing at the Hard Rock Live, on June 30. It will be the first of four upcoming dates and will conclude on Aug. 19 at The Township Auditorium in Columbia, S.C. Smiley is a comedian, radio personality for a nationally syndicated show and television host. It is presented by Full Gospel Baptist.
As a stand-up comedian, Smiley is known for his “clean” style of comedy. The characters he portrays include: “Bernice Jenkins” (also known as Granny Swims, Ms. Johnson or Mrs. Francis), “Lil’ Darryl”, “Rusty Dale” and “Beauford”. During his routines, he provides vocals and plays an array of instruments with a band.
For two seasons, Smiley was the host of BET’s “ComicView”. He was on many television shows and programs including: “The Way We Do It”, “Diamond Life”, “Rickey Smiley: Open Casket Sharp”, “Let’s Stay Together”, “The Rickey Smiley Show”, “Rickey Smiley For Real” and “Star”. Films works included: “Friday After Next”, “Sweet Hideaway”, “First Sunday’, “Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming” and “Baggage Claim”. He also served as the executive producer on “The Rickey Smiley Show” and “Rickey Smiley For Real”. He was the writer of three episodes of “1st Amendment Stand Up”, one episode of “Comedy Central Presents” and one episode of BET’s “ComicView”. He appeared in the comedy special, “Don’t Trip… He Ain’t Through With Me Yet” with Steve Harvey.
Comedy discography for Smiley includes: “The Best of Comedian Rickey Smiley Vol. I”, “Prank Calls Vol. II”, “Off The Hook Vol. III”, “Off The Hook Volume 4”, “Vol. V” and “Vol. 6”. Songs include “Roll Tide” by Beauford and “We Miss Robert”.
As a disc jockey, Smiley hosts “Rickey Smiley Morning Show”. His radio program consists of: prank calls, “Paternity Test Tuesday”,
“Wake Up Wednesday”, “Gary’s Tea”, “News You Can’t Use” and “The Joke of the Day”. According to his website, it is a “blend of laughter, serious discussion of social issues”, “political awareness, and community outreach”.
When Smiley is away from the road, he spends time in Birmingham, Ala. with family.
