RZA set to direct "Breakout"

LOS ANGELES – Robert “RZA” Diggs will be returning to the director’s chair for the third time, as he is set to direct the action-thriller “Breakout”. The plot of the film will be centered around a photo journalist on location in Bangladesh and who is framed for drug charges. His father sends two of his friends to help him escape out of prison and restore his name. It was written for the screen by Richard and Nicole D’Ovidio.
“The multi-talented RZA has mastered the art of music, acting, and filmmaking,” Bradley Gallo and Michael Helfant of Amnasia stated. “We are ecstatic to have him behind the camera on our next project as he brings a fresh and innovative take to this international action thriller from Rich D’Ovidio”.
Amasia Entertainment (“The Call”, “Exit Wounds”) reached an agreement with RZA to direct “Breakout”. It will start production in the early months of 2016. This will be the second collaboration between both parties. They previously worked on the movie, “Mr. Right”. The film stars Sam Rockwell (“The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy”, “The Green Mile”) and Anna Kendrick (“Pitch Perfect”, “50/50”). It is set for a world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, on Sept. 19.
“Breakout” will follow RZA’s second directorial film, “Coco”. It is a hip-hop drama and the release date will be some time in March of 2016. It will star Common (“Selma”, “American Gangster)”, Jill Scott (“Dave Chapelle’s Block Party”, “Obsessed), Azealia Banks and more.
The first film RZA directed was “The Man With The Iron Fists” (2012).The screenplay was written by him and Eli Roth (“Hostel”, “The Green Inferno”). It starred him, Rick Yune (“The Fast and the Furious”, “Olympus Has Fallen”), Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”, “A Beautiful Mind”), Lucy Liu (“Kill Bill: Vol. 1”, “Lucky Number Slevin”), Dave Bautista (“Guardians of the Galaxy”, “Riddick”) and more.
Such as “The Man In The Iron Fists”, RZA has appeared in front of the camera for both film and television. He made his theatrical debut alongside Forest Whitaker in “Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai”. His starred in the Fox action drama, “Gang Related”.
