ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.—Sister Hazel headlined the second day of the 20th Annual Rhythm & Ribs, on April 11. Go Get Gone, Eager Beaver and Amy Alysia & The Soul Operation were the opening acts. Ivey-West Band was the direct support.
Ken Block is the lead vocalist and acoustic guitarist, Jett Beres is the bassist, Andrew Copeland is the rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist, Ryan Newell is the lead vocalist and slide guitarist, Mark Trojanowski is the drummer and Dave LaGrande is the keyboardist of Sister Hazel. Beres and Newell also provide harmony vocals.
After Sister Hazel began their concert with “Intro”, “Change Your Mind”, “Thank You”, “Where You’re Going” and “Mandolin Moon”—Block stated they were from Gainesville, Fla. and the crowd cheered in response. After looking around the field, he noticed a few names of the vendors. He and Newell dissected a few of the names and how they could easily be the new name of the band or could be a band from a different genre. Block thought their name would be Dunkin’ Donuts because of the large suspended banner behind them. Then, he went onto say the next song was an about an ex and encouraged the crowd to sing along to “Champagne High”.
Prior to “Beautiful Thing”, Block mentioned Sister Hazel had been a band for 21 years and jokingly said how they accomplished so much for the members of the band being only 30-years-old. He asked the crowd if it was okay to document the part of the show. He brought on stage a family member, LaGrande and Trojanowski parted from their instruments to center stage and Beres waved his right hand for the crowd to provide a response.
Block played a few notes and quietly sang the lyrics to “All For You”. After the crowd caught on—he refrained from singing and the spectators finished the set of lyrics for him. During the song, the crowd sang one of the choruses a cappella.
“Swan Dive” brought an end to Sister Hazel’s performance. After the song came to an end, Block cited his gratitude, reintroduced the band and some threw guitar picks into the crowd for souvenirs.
“Shame”/The Allman Brothers Band’s “Jessica”, “Come Around”, “A Little Like Heaven”, “Your Winter”/The Beatles’ “Hey Jude”, “Everybody”, “Something To Believe In”, “Your Mistake”, “Happy” and “This Kind Of Love” were also a part of Sister Hazel’s set.
