ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.—Third Eye Blind had all eyes glued on them at The St. Augustine Amphitheatre, on June 7. They were the headlining act, Augustana was the opening act and Dashboard Confessional co-headlined the evening's concert.
Stephan Jenkins is the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Kryz Reid is the lead guitarist, Alex Kopp is the keyboardist and pianist, Alex LeCavalier is the bassist and Brad Hargreaves is the drummer and percussionist of Third Eye Blind. Kopp also plays the guitar and provides backup vocals. LeCavalier, Hargreaves and Reid also provide backup vocals.
An instrumental was heard before members of Third Eye Blind approached the stage. Spectators cheered after Reid, Kopp, LeCavalier, Hargreaves and Jenkins made their way to their designated areas of the stage. The stage remained dark as the “Intro” faded into the “Graduate”. Jenkins remained near the back of the stage; he stood on top of a black box and sang into a suspended microphone. After the conclusion, he made his way to the forefront of the stage to sing “Blinded (When I See You)”.
Jenkins spoke of the curfew Third Eye Blind had to abide by, prior to “Motorcycle Drive By”. It was the only time the audience booed for they wanted more time to spend with them. He stated they all had the energy to play all night for them if they could and the crowd responded with cheers.
After the rest of Third Eye Blind accompanied Jenkins to end “How’s It Gonna Be”, he parted the stage with them. Hargreaves remained on stage and transitioned into a drum solo. He was accompanied by the voices of what sounded like James Brown and Jay-Z, as well as a couple of instrumentals. As he had his moment in the spotlight, the audience cheered him numerous times.
“Semi-Charmed Life” brought an end to Third Eye Blind’s performance. The majority of the onlookers stood, from beginning to end and sang along. After it concluded, Jenkins praised the audience and hoped for the band to return. Everyone parted ways with the instruments, they gathered near the front of the stage to give away guitar picks, drum sticks and Jenkins reached out to those he could reach.
“Wounded”, “Crystal Baller”, “Bonfire”, “Never Let You Go”, “Everything Is Easy”, Beyoncé’s “Mine”, “Losing A Whole Year”, “Rites Of Passage”, “Jumper” and “Something In You” were also part of Third Eye Blind’s set.
