Sixth Semi-Annual Singer/Songwriters Competition at White Lion Restaurant and Pub: finals

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Fourth Semi-Annual Singer/Songwriter Competition came to an end at the White Lion Restaurant and Lounge, on Sept. 24. The top 10 contestants out of 40 competed for the grand prize which included a cash prize, a cover story for the month of Nov. in The Narrow Magazine, ten hours of studio time at A1A Studio Productions and a photo shoot with Eric Hood. The second place winner would receive five hours of studio time at The Nashville Sound Studio and a photo shoot with Hood. The third runner up would receive a photo shoot with Hood.
Kensley Stewart, Tyler Bergeron, Laurel Lee, Shae Birney, Elizabeth Williamson, Aaron Sherman, Larry Langston, Katherine Archer, Alex Peramas and Bob Langston were the top ten finalists of the four week competition.
“Wiser” and “I’m Your Woman” were part of Stewart’s set. Bergeron performed “You Are So Stupid” and “Uphill From Here”. “Sorrow” and “I Speak Fire” were part of Lee’s performance. “Florida Cracker Girl” and “F-L-O-R-I-D-A” were performed by Williamson. “Boxes In The Basement” and “Take You Away” were part of Sherman’s showcase. “I Thank God” and “Hey, Little Girl” were part of Larry Langston’s recital. “This Dove” and “Give It All You Got” were part of Peramas presentation. “Bottom of the Well” and “No Regrets” was part of Bob Langston’s demonstration.
Hendrickson encouraged the audience to stick around for after the judges’ decision because there would be an open mic event taking place immediately after. She announced music would be provided by Mr. Charlie, Hood and Ryan McNair. Mr. Charlie and Hood provided vocals and strummed their guitars. McNair assisted by playing a variety of harmonicas. Hendrickson parted the stage, the judges walked to a secluded area of the venue and they tallied up the votes.
After the decision was made, Hendrickson reappeared on stage and joked how one of the winners would receive a llama because the kitten from the previous week was unavailable. Then, she announced the top the winners of the Fourth Semi-Annual Singer/Songwriter Competition. Williamson won third place, Stewart took him home second place and Archer took home the grand prize.
“Oregon Rain” and “The Timucua Song” were part of Archer’s grand prize set. “Oregon Rain” was inspired by Archer touring in her 20s, standing up to a bully and how the outcome was shocking. “The Timucua Song” was written about the Native American tribe.
