Whoopi Goldberg to grace the stage of The Florida Theatre

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Whoopi Goldberg will be bringing laughter to The Florida Theatre, on Sept. 26. Her 2015 tour schedule began on April 17 at MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit, took Aug. off and it will conclude on Nov. 13 at Treasure Island in Las Vegas.
Goldberg was born on Nov. 13, 1955. When she moved to Calif.—she joined improvisational groups including Spontaneous Combustion. Shortly after, she had her own Home Box Office (HBO) special and a one-woman show, “Moms Mabley”. She co-starred in the “Comic Relief” HBO specials, with Billy Crystal and the late Robin Williams.
In the 1980s, Goldberg made her big screen debut. She starred in “The Color Purple”, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”, “Burglar” and “The Telephone”.
“Ghost” continued Goldberg’s motion pictures career, in the 1990s. It was followed by voiceover work for “The Pagemaster”. She went onto star in “Theodore Rex”, “Eddie”, “The Associate”, “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” and “The Deep End of the Ocean”.
In television, Goldberg’s starred in the television series, “Star Trek: The Next Generation”. Her contributions for voiceover work in “Captain Planet and the Planeteers” and “TV Funhouse” for “Saturday Night Live”. She was a frequent celebrity guest on “Hollywood Squares”. She has acquired many awards including: the Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Grammy. She has hosted a few of awards shows, as well.
Throughout Goldberg’s career, she was in print and television advertisements. She has written and published many books, including the “Sugar Plum Ballerinas” series. She co-starred in music videos including: Garth Brooks “We Shall Be Free”, Bree Sharp’s “David Duchovny”, Michael Jackson’s “Liberian Girl”, Bonnie Raitt’s “You Got It” and Aretha Franklin’s “Jumping Jack Flash”.
Currently, Goldberg is one of the hosts of “The View”. The season premiere will be Sept. 15 on American Broadcasting Company (ABC), from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST. Her co-host is Rosie O’Donnell and they will be joined by new co-hosts, Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace. She also hosts “Rollin' with Whoopi” on YouTube.
The charities Goldberg supports include: amfAR, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Convenant House, DIFFA, Elton John AIDS Foundation, God’s Love We Deliver, Jane Goodall Foundation, Project Angel Food and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
