ORLANDO, Fla. – Wilson Phillips will be performing Epcot Center at the Disney World Resorts, on Sept. 28. It will be part of Eat to the Beat.
Chynna Phillips, Carnie Wilson and Wendy Wilson are the vocalists known as Wilson Phillips. The Wilson sisters are the daughters of The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson. Phillips is the daughter of The Mamas & The Papas’ John and Michelle Phillips.
The pop trio known as Wilson Phillips formed in Los Angeles, in 1989. One year later, they released their debut album. It featured five Top 20 singles including: “Hold On”, “Impulsive”, “You’re In Love” and “The Dream Is Still Alive”. “Hold On”, “Release Me” and “You’re In Love” reached number one and were both certified gold singles. “Impulsive” reached number four and “The Dream Is Still Alive” reached number 12. The album sold five million copies and won the Billboard Music Award for “Hold On”.
In 1992, Wilson Phillips became the best-selling female group of all-time. Previously, the title holder was The Supremes. Their next album, “Shadows and Light”, featured three hits including: “You Won’t See Me Cry”, “Give It Up” and “Flesh & Blood”. The album would go onto be nominated for five GRAMMY Awards, one American Music Award and it won a Billboard Music Award.
Phillips and Carnie Wilson had successful careers in film and television, as well. Phillips co-starred in such films as “Some Kind of Wonderful” (1987), “Caddyshack II” (1988), “Say Anything” (1989), “Roxanne: The Prize Pullitzer” (1989) and more. Carnie Wilson had her own talk show, “Carnie!” (1996). Her hosting duties continued with the Game Show Network’s rendition of “Newylwed Game”. She has appeared on the Country Music Television’s show “Gone Country”, the National Broadcasting Company’s mini-series “The Sixties” and more. Wilson Phillips was featured in the film, “Bridesmaids” (2011), as themselves.
Members of Wilson Phillips had solo careers, sang songs as a duo and returned as a trio. Wendy Wilson went solo first and Carnie Wilson followed by releasing two albums. The last studio album they released paid homage to their parents, as they covered songs from The Beach Boys and The Mamas & The Papas’ catalog. The album was called “Dedicated” and it was released on April 3, 2012 through Sony Masterworks.
