CHICAGO – Yippie Fest is accepting applications for Chicago-based performers to participate including: theatre groups, solo performers, plays, sketch shows, improv groups, bands, magicians, jugglers, dancers, musicians, dancers, puppets, stand-up comedians and short films. It is a festival open to all regardless of race, age or sexual orientation. It celebrates the diversity in performance and performers. For consideration to take part, applications must be turned in by July 18. The festivities are set to take place from Aug. 18 through Aug. 20. There is no application fee and Prop Thtr is the venue. An opening ceremony will occur on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. Performances will take place on Aug. 19 and Aug. 20. There will be a closing ceremony, on Aug. 20 at 11 p.m.
To take part in Yippie Fest, all Chicago-based acts must make the following four steps: submit an application, attend the meetings, go to the barbecue and perform. Applications can be found by clicking here. By going to the meetings, performers will be able to keep in touch and it will lead to communication through emails. Via emails, participants can schedule tech times and prepare shows. At the barbecue—artists can pick up passes, network with the rest of the artists on the bill and promote their shows at the festival. The fourth step is performing and watching others perform their routines.
Frank (festival coordinator), Desiree (public relations and more) and James (musical director) are the staff of Yippie Fest. Frank is a founding member of the sketch comedy group, Famous In The Future, and participated in all of the 28 Abbie Hoffman Died for Our Sins Festivals (AbbieFest). Desiree is a performer, comedy writer and puppet-lover of Famous In The Future. James is a founding member of the Black Forest Theater Co. and the neo-psychedelic folk rock ensemble, whitewolfsonicprincess.

After a 28-year run of AbbieFest, Yippie Fest will carry on the tradition of the live theater festival. Depending on the act, performances range from 10 to 50 minutes. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased through the website for $20 for the weekend and $10 for individual dates. Prices increase, at the doors of the event.
